many people helping us deliver this car right here. you don't want to miss a thing. >> making a lot of people happy this week. we're going to start out with this congressman making headlines for buying cocaine. trey radel is going to court today after being caught up in a sting. he's a tea party favorite from florida. calls himself a hip-hop congressman. and pierre thomas has all of the details on how he was caught. good morning, pierre. >> reporter: good morning, george. today, a sitting u.s. congressman won't be on capitol hill. no, he will be in a d.c. courthouse facing drug charges that could land him in jail for up to 180 days. he's a conservative congressman. >> a compromise is essential. >> reporter: and self-proclaimed rap music connoisseur. >> bring the noise. >> public enemy "bring the noise," is one of my favorite tracks. >> reporter: this morning, florida congressman trey radel has been accused of buying cocaine. sources tell abc news, the congressman was snared in a joint fbi/dea sting operation

after being identified by a cocaine dealer. radel allegedly purchased the cocaine in washington's dupont circle. undercover agents let him leave the scene. authorities later went to his home and informed him that he just purchased cocaine from a federal agent. they did not arrest radel. but told him he would be hearing from them soon. in a statement, the congressman acknowledged the charge but did not specifically mention cocaine. i am profoundly sorry, he said. i struggle with the disease of alcoholism. and this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. radel recently supported legislation, forcing food stamp recipients to pass a drug test before receiving benefits. he co-sponsored a bill, lowering mandatory minimum sentencing for some drug offenses. in this march blog, the congressman also admitted that his favorite vacation spot is cartagena, colombia. once a notorious hub for drug trafficking. the story drawing comparisons to toronto mayor, rob ford, who also admitted to using cocaine. >> i have nothing left to hide. >> reporter: and to the bottle-carrying, sporadic

drug-using congressman in the netflix series, "house of cards." >> i know i have a problem. i accept that. >> reporter: like that character, radel says, he'll get treatment. a spokesman for john boehner said, members of congress should be held to the highest standards. but ultimately, this is between the congressman, his family, and his constituents. george? >> cartagena, colombia. >> yeah. >> once he said that, it kind of raised eyebrows. and now to the frightening headline. an abc news exclusive. al qaeda operatives living right here in the united states. slipping through the cracks of a refugee program. abc's brian ross is here with much more. i know you've been investigating this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the fbi is now investigating whether dozens of al qaeda terrorists with american blood on their hands from iraq and afghanistan, have been able to move to the u.s., claiming to be refugees. it's the result of what an abc news investigation found was a flawed system of u.s. background

checks. they came to light in the case of ooid in accoual qaeda in ken. the city of bowling green, kentucky, seems far removed from concerns about terrorists. until the fbi discovered that two al qaeda terrorists from iraq had been resettled here two years ago as refugees. and were caught trying to obtain weapons to be used to kill more americans. in this video, being seen publicly for the first time this morning. >> i think they wanted to kill americans. but i think they wanted the freedom that america provided to them. >> reporter: before coming to kentucky, the two were part of an al qaeda-connected group that carried out dozens of attacks on u.s. soldiers in iraq. >> he had them for lunch and dinner, meaning he had killed them. >> reporter: including one roadside bomb that killed four members of the pennsylvania national guard. >> i think these two individuals specifically are innately evil. >> reporter: the two terrorists, were able to get through what an abc news investigation discovered was a flawed u.s. system of background checks. even though both men had been

detained by iraqi authorities on suspicion of being insurgents. >> if you're asking my opinion, i would say the system failed. otherwise, they wouldn't have been here in the first place. >> reporter: a big breakthrough in the case came from this warehouse outside of washington, an fbi repository of some 100,000 bombs used against american targets around the world. >> this is a box that contains the device. >> reporter: fbi technicians, poring over the remnants were able to match the fingerprints on a roadside bomb recovered in iraq eight years ago in kentucky. >> you can see right here. >> reporter: what was it like when you made the match? >> the whole team was ecstatic. it was like finding a needle in a haystack. >> reporter: now, the fbi says there could be dozens of others in the u.s., whose fingerprints may also be on the bomb parts stored here. >> we're supporting dozens of counterterrorism investigations like that. >> reporter: dozens of cases? >> correct. >> reporter: you're looking for

prints of people who are in this country now? >> that's correct. >> reporter: the discovery of al qaeda in kentucky led to a six-month suspension of the refugee program, which has allowed tens of thousands of legitimate iraqi refugees to come here. now, the immigration service says it has tightened security on background checks. and as to whether any other terrorists got through, after the barn door was closed, officials say there are a lot of retroactive checkings going on right now. >> i'm sure there are. but the fingerprints, and the way they were able to check like that. >> a huge operation. going through 14,000 fingerprint matches for 1 bomb alone. and they found the prints from eight years ago. >> hard at work. all right, brian, thank you. we're going to turn to the virginia politician recovering this morning after a brutal stabbing from his own son. the young man killed himself, after stabbing his father. he had been dealing with mental health problems but was released from the hospital. apparently there weren't enough beds available. abc's jim avila has the story. >> reporter: the 55-year-old high-profile politician and

father, who campaigned with presidents obama and clinton, appears to be the intended victim. and his 24-year-old son, gus, the troubled attempted murderer, who in the end, killed himself unexpectedly. authorities believe an early-morning fight in this remote western virginia mountaintop home, left the father and son battling for life. deeds and his son, gus, were the only two in the house. >> it started outside. i'm not sure anything happened inside, as far as the altercation. >> reporter: the elder deeds was stabbed multiple times in the head and chest. his son still alive when authorities arrived, had been shot. state police saying today, it looks like the gunshot was self-inflicted. >> no problem at all with gus. he's a supernice kid. >> never violent? >> no. a-plus student. he was a top-notch student. >> reporter: gus deeds was close to his father. even quit school temporarily to help with his dad's campaign for governor. but this fall, things seemed to fall apart.

gus dropped out of college. and according to reports in the richmond paper, was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital just monday for evaluation. "the richmond times dispatch," quoting a mental health official saying the boy wasn't kept in custody because there were no beds for him in the entire western part of virginia. >> we're looking into this as an attempted murder and suicide. >> reporter: sheriff's detectives say the crime scene behind this yellow tape and up that driveway at the house, is both extensive and widespread. as for senator deeds, he remains in the hospital and now in fair condition. police here say they will not comment anymore about the motive in this case. they'll only say that the son, gus, is the only one involved. robin? >> incredibly sad. jim, thank you. now, to the latest trouble for george zimmerman. out on bond this morning after being arrested on assault charges. we are learning more about the allegations against him.

and abc's matt gutman is in sanford, florida, with the latest on all of this. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, robin. according to the bond condition, this is one of the two places that george zimmerman cannot go. it's his girlfriend's house. where monday, she claims he pointed a shotgun at her head. and just yesterday, new allegations of domestic violence. this morning, george zimmerman is again, a free man, for now. lumbering out of jail tuesday, after a tense bond hearing. >> do you understand all those rights? >> yes, sir. >> reporter: with his beard bushy, and sweat beading on his forehead, zimmerman stood stonefaced, as the prosecution revealed a new allegation from his girlfriend, samantha. >> the victim indicated there was a prior domestic violence incident that occurred a week and a half ago, that involved a choking. >> reporter: and what may be an insight into zimmerman's mental state. >> they had been discussing breaking up. he also has mentioned suicide in the recent past. >> reporter: the judge releasing him on a $9,000 bond.

even though zimmerman said he was deeply in debt. >> no possession of weapons or ammunition while you're out on bond. >> reporter: the judge forbidding zimmerman from having contact with his girlfriend. who told 911 dispatchers, he cocked a shotgun and pointed it at her head on monday. >> he's in my house. breaking all of my stuff. because i asked him to leave. he has a freaking gun breaking all of my stuff right now. >> reporter: and outside the jail tuesday, zimmerman's public defenders fielding questions about their client's sanity. >> i think it's too early to say a meltdown. but we'll find out. >> he is presumed innocent on these matters. we're confident he will be acquitted. >> reporter: not only has zimmerman lost his girlfriend. but apparently he also lost his wife. he was served with these divorce papers while in jail yesterday. apparently, her divorce attorneys have been trying to find him for six weeks. wasn't hard to find him in jail. robin? >> okay, matt. thank you. going to turn to josh with the other top stories of the morning. good morning, josh. >> we're going to begin with some of the video that we showed

you at the top of the show. that crash of a medical flight off south florida. a lear jet plunged into the atlantic just minutes after leaving ft. lauderdale, found for mexico. two bodies have been recovered. two others are still missing. a doctor and nurse were reportedly onboard with two pilots. the jet was apparently trying to return to the airport after reporting a mechanical problem. and new details about a possible security agreement between the u.s. and afghanistan that could keep american troops in that country for another decade. in exchange for the deal, president obama is reportedly being asked to write a letter to afghanistan's president, acknowledging u.s. military mistakes and promising not to repeat them. a white house official denies any apology is, in fact, being drafted. and a new concern about the obama care website. tech experts warned congress tuesday that the site should be shut down until security breaches are fixed. one expert said he was able to hack into the site, seize

control of users' web cams and access everything on their computers. more trouble for the embattled mayor of toronto. police say the video of rob ford, allegedly smoking crack, was shot in february, which would appear to contradict his claim that he hasn't smoked the drug in a year. meantime, ford's new television show has been canceled after only one episode. and a record marijuana bust in arizona. agents say they found 10 tons of marijuana being hauled from mexico in a truck carrying squash. perhaps it was the other way around. and a daring rescue, as two hikers were air-lifted to safety after becoming stranded in rough terrain. you see the rescue here. a young couple called for help when they realized that were wholly unprepared for the grueling trail near vancouver.

and a passing to note here in the abc/disney family. diane disney miller, the eldest daughter of walt disney, has died at the age of 79. she was one of her father's inspirations for creating disneyland. and would later become a guiding force within his entertainment empire. she founded the disney family museum in san francisco, played a key role in the creation of the beautiful disney concert hall in los angeles. disney ceo robert iger, said that diane holds a special place in the history of the company. and in the hearts of fans everywhere. she will be greatly missed. she is survived by her husband of 49 years, as well as 7 children and 13 grandchildren. >> something that bob iger sent us all an e-mail letting us know about the passing. and what she has meant to this company. will hold a very special place. >> she was the keeper of the flame. >> yes, she was. thanks. now, to a new ruling coming for airline pilots, perhaps. the faa will soon start targeting obese pilots and air traffic controllers and treating

them for possible sleep problems tied to their weight. it's all designed to make all of us who fly safer. and abc's david kerley has the story. >> reporter: obesity. we've called it a national epidemic. occasionally a problem in an aircraft cabin. in the movie "why did i get married?" >> i'm sorry, ma'am, someone your size has to buy two seats. >> reporter: actor/director kevin smith, who calls himself way fat, was asked to get off a plane. this morning, the faa is worried about obese pilots because their weight could cause apnea, leaving them tired. >> sleep apnea in obese patients is a common condition. and it results in lack of enough sleep or quality sleep. >> reporter: that's what happened five years ago, on a go airlines flight between islands in hawaii. both pilots fell asleep and overshot the runway before waking and landing. the captain, according to the

ntsb, was later diagnosed with apnea and was obese. this is about passenger safety. >> it has the same physiological effects as drinking. you don't want a drunk pilot flying your airplane, any more than you would want a pilot who hasn't had appropriate sleep flying your airplane. >> reporter: the faa flight surgeon says obese pilots will have to see a sleep specialist. if diagnosed, they will need cleared for treatment before being able to work. the faa is starting with pilots with a body mass index of 40. but plans to lower that to 30 soon. what does that mean? a six-foot man with a 40 bmi would wear nearly 300 pounds. and 30 bmi, that same man would weigh 220 pounds. >> i think pilots will embrace it. pilots don't want to make mistakes. >> reporter: this is not just pilots. it's also flight controllers who will be covered down the line on these new guidelines. and, george, this is a major change. and it is coming soon. >> seems like it. okay, david, thanks very much. we're going to turn to the holiday bargains coming earlier than ever this year. walmart has announced they're going to match the best black

friday prices starting this friday. rebecca jarvis has more. on this race by retailers to ring up end of the year sales. sales are going to go to halloween next. >> i asked them that exact same question at walmart yesterday. it feels like they're expanding the clock. they told me, this is the super bowl. they have a lot of plays to run. they're trying to run them with as much time as they have available. that's why walmart, is going to start offering black friday deals. they're going to match what the competition is doing. target, best buy, toys "r" us, amazon, they're all running black friday deals on their websites right now, as well. we're just seeing this completely expanding. and on black friday, black friday being the day after thanksgiving, we're going to see the sales start three hours earlier than average because they're beginning on thanksgiving. >> and are they doing this because they're worried it's going to be a slow year? >> they think it could be slower.

bessey acted surprise when they told her her husband had been shot and survived. >> i see you're upset. >> reporter: but it was this gas station surveillance video, that helped crack the case. it shows the defendant's brother and son not far from the scene of the shooting. drive the same gold suv, police say was tied to the incident. and this text message that the defendant's brother allegedly sent her. saying -- >> i love it when a plan comes together. that, ladies and gentlemen, the text message sent approximately six hours prior to robert bessey being shot in the head. >> reporter: all three family members have pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. if convicted, amy bessey could face 91 years behind bars. for "good morning america," abbie boudreau, abc news, los angeles. let's talk to dan abrams about all this. what a trail of evidence. >> and it started because of that gold suv. meaning, it's a somewhat unusual color. and the authorities put out a notice, we believe there was a

gold suv, because mr. bessey remembered -- the one thing he could remember, was it was a gold suv that was next to him. that tip led them to the gas station. the gas station led them back, et cetera. and now, they've got what they believe is a whole trove of evidence, including cell phone records, recorded conversations, et cetera. >> and the fact he survived and can testify, makes it huge. >> changes everything. if he hadn't survived, we'd be having this trial, likely. he's the one that said gold suv. the fact that he survived allowed them to figure out who was behind this. and "b" it allows him to testify about their relationship and the problems they were having. he's crucial. and i think that because he's testifying that you might see her now forced to testify. >> that's what i was going to ask you. why? >> typically, in a case like this. you say, do you expect the person to testify? the answer is almost always

know. in connection to this kind of case, where he is giving such specific accounts of their relationship of how it was disintegra disintegrating, his concerns, how others are coming out against her. i think this is the case where she may have to get on the stand and offer up explanations. she's not claiming -- no one is claiming she was the person who pulled the trigger. she has to say, i had nothing to do with this. and this is why. >> and only she can provide those explanations. >> that's right. now, to what could be the biggest divorce settlement ever. media mogul, rupert myrurdoch a his wife, wendi, in court today. and murdoch is no stranger to big divorce settlements. linsey davis has the story. >> reporter: this morning, rupert murdoch and his estranged wife, wendy dang, there appear before a new york judge. one step closer to what could be the most expensive divorce ever. so far, the details are under wraps. but we do know there's a lot at
